Brutal Fish by Campos Celebrates Historic Le Mans Victory
The 2026 Road to Le Mans delivered action from start to finish. Incidents, strategy battles, and late drama shaped an unforgettable race at the Circuit de la Sarthe.
Brutal Fish by Campos emerged as the standout team. Arthur Rogeon and August Raber secured a memorable overall victory in their Ligier Toyota. The result marked the team’s first win in the Michelin Le Mans Cup and a dream debut triumph at Le Mans.
Rogeon crossed the finish line 23 seconds ahead of Lenny Ried in the High Class Racing Ligier. Teammate Matus Ryba completed a remarkable double podium for Brutal Fish by Campos by finishing third overall.
The result underlined the team’s pace and consistency throughout the three hour contest.
Chaotic Opening Creates Early Drama
The race began with 57 cars charging into the first corner. Pole sitter Arthur Rogeon immediately controlled the pace from the front.
Behind him, Enzo Peugeot and Colin Queen battled fiercely for second position. Their fight continued through the opening laps before interruptions slowed the race.
Several incidents around the circuit triggered an early Full Course Yellow. The neutralization interrupted the rhythm of many teams and reshuffled strategies.
In the Pro Am category, Andrew Rackstraw made an excellent start. The High Class Racing driver climbed from ninth on the grid to class leader during the opening lap.
The race returned to green conditions after eight minutes. More trouble soon followed when the 23Events Racing Ligier spun at Arnage.
This promoted Matus Ryba into second place and strengthened the position of the Campos squad.
Safety Car Changes the Race
A major accident at the Porsche Curves brought out the Safety Car shortly before the end of the first hour.
The damaged CLX Motorsport Ligier required extensive recovery work. The lengthy intervention offered teams an important strategic opportunity.
Following the pit stops, High Class Racing briefly moved into the overall lead. However, a penalty for a yellow flag infringement soon dropped the Danish team down the order.
At the halfway point, Brutal Fish by Campos controlled the race. Their two Ligiers occupied the top positions and looked increasingly difficult to beat.
Rogeon Pulls Clear
As the final hour approached, Arthur Rogeon returned to the cockpit and immediately increased the pressure.
After catching Lenny Ried, the Frenchman reclaimed the lead and steadily built a comfortable advantage.
Behind him, the battle for second remained intense. However, neither High Class Racing nor Nielsen Racing could match the pace of the leading Campos entry.
Rogeon eventually secured victory after a flawless performance. His commanding drive delivered one of the most important wins of the season.
GT3 Battle Ends in Controversy
The GT3 category produced one of the most dramatic finishes seen this year.
For nearly thirty minutes, Garnet Patterson and Jean Baptiste Simmenauer fought relentlessly for the class lead. Their McLarens traded pressure lap after lap while traffic added further complexity.
Everything came to a head on the final lap.
At Mulsanne, Simmenauer launched an aggressive attack. Patterson defended firmly, but contact followed as slower LMP3 traffic became involved.
The United Autosports McLaren spun into the barriers after colliding with another prototype. Simmenauer escaped the chaos and crossed the line first.
The celebrations proved short lived.
Post race investigations revealed minimum driving time and technical infringements. The penalties promoted the Racing Spirit of Leman Aston Martin of Valentin Hasse Clot and teammate Gonzalo Gomez to victory.
Steve Jans completed the podium for Getspeed Mercedes AMG after another strong Le Mans performance.
Pro Am Victory Decided After the Finish
The LMP3 Pro Am category also experienced a dramatic twist.
Wayne Boyd and Daniel Goldburg appeared to secure victory for M Racing after an impressive recovery drive.
Goldburg started from the rear of the field before Boyd executed a strong final stint. Their strategy seemed to have delivered a deserved class win.
However, post race penalties changed the final classification.
A minimum pit stop infringement and a technical violation dropped the M Racing Ligier from the top position.
As a result, reigning champions Eric De Doncker and Gillian Henrion inherited victory for Motorsport98.
Looking Ahead to Spa
The Road to Le Mans once again showcased why it remains one of endurance racing’s most popular support events.
Brutal Fish by Campos celebrated a landmark victory. GT3 honours changed hands after the chequered flag. Multiple categories were decided by both performance and regulations.
With momentum building across the championship, attention now turns to Spa Francorchamps. The next Michelin Le Mans Cup round takes place on 22 August and promises another thrilling chapter in the 2026 season.
