Blackthorn AMR Dominates at Spa
The latest round of the British GT Championship took place at Circuit de Spa Francorchamps.
Jonny Adam became the most successful GT3 driver in championship history.
The Scottish driver secured his twentieth GT3 victory alongside Giacomo Petrobelli and Blackthorn AMR.
The victory moved Adam ahead of Phil Keen on the all time winners list.
Petrobelli Controls Opening Stint
Petrobelli immediately established control after the race start.
The Aston Martin driver built a three second advantage after the opening lap. His pace remained unmatched throughout the first stint.
Behind him, chaos unfolded among the chasing pack. Simon Orange suffered a major spin at Blanchimont.
The damaged McLaren later returned to the pits for lengthy repairs.
Strong battles developed between the Optimum Motorsport McLaren, both Barwell Motorsport Lamborghinis, and the 2 Seas Motorsport Mercedes cars.
Several leading teams later received penalties for track limits violations.
Full Course Yellow Changes the Race
The race’s only Full Course Yellow followed a stoppage for the Century Motorsport BMW GT4 entry.
The caution period proved perfect for Blackthorn AMR. The team completed a mandatory stop during reduced race speed.
Adam later returned the Aston Martin to Petrobelli, who maintained excellent pace throughout his second stint.
Despite a temporary challenge from the Spirit of Race Ferrari, Blackthorn regained control after pit stops.
Adam rejoined for the final hour with a large lead. The result never looked in doubt afterwards.
Kirchhöfer Delivers Stunning Fightback
The battle for second position remained intense until the final laps.
Marvin Kirchhöfer produced one of the drives of the race for Optimum Motorsport.
The German overtook multiple rivals during a spectacular sequence through Eau Rouge and Raidillon.
Kirchhöfer secured second place alongside Morgan Tillbrook in the McLaren.
Hugo Cook and Rob Collard completed the podium for Barwell Motorsport.
Dramatic GT4 Race Rewards Century Motorsport
The GT4 category delivered even more drama during the three hour contest.
Ravi Ramyead and Charlie Robertson claimed victory for Century Motorsport.
The BMW crew recovered despite serving two early drive through penalties.
A mid race Safety Car transformed their race and brought them back into contention.
Meanwhile, the Mahiki Racing Ginetta controlled much of the event.
Josh Miller and Jack Mitchell led comfortably during the opening stages.
However, their strategy failed after staying out during the caution period.
Century Motorsport timed its stops perfectly and inherited the lead later in the race.
Championship Continues at Snetterton
The Spa round delivered major championship moments and historic achievements.
Jonny Adam’s twentieth GT3 victory added another milestone to an already legendary career.
The British GT Championship now heads to Snetterton Circuit on July 11 to 13 for the next round of the season.
